Medicines for Removing Warts
As you may be aware, most people do not seek treatment for warts unless they are in a place where the cause pain or discomfort. While you may be able to self-medicate warts on the external parts of the s, others may require attention from a doctor. At the very least, you should be aware of the six medications most commonly used to remove warts.
Wartrol - Wartrol is a homeopathic medicine that works by enhancing your body’s natural immune defenses. Unlike common drugs, which produce a specific effect while stopping other bodily responses, homeopathic medicines encourage the body to heal itself.
5-Flurouracil – Epinephrine – Even though 5-Flurouracil is commonly used to treat colon cancer, when combined with ephinephrine it can be used to treat warts. Typically, it is injected directly into the wart on a weekly basis until the wart vanishes.
Aldara – This is a cream that can be applied directly to the warts three times a week, an then washed off after a maximum of six hours. Aldara acts to boost the immune system, which helps get rid of the warts. It should be noted that this cream will not cure the condition, and warts may come back.
Condylox – Also a cream that must be applied in one of two schedules. It can be used for three weeks when applied every other day. Alternatively, it can be applied daily for three days in a row, and then not used for four days.
Interferon Alpha – This is also an injectable treatment that will boost the immune system. Lesions are usually injected every other day for a maximum of 8 weeks. As with Adara, the actual viral infection will not be destroyed by the treatment.
Podophyllin – A resin based treatment must be applied to the wart for several hours, and then washed off. It is usually applied once a week by a doctor.
TCA/BCA – These are acid solutions that can be applied to the wart on a weekly basis.
When it comes to choosing a medication to treat warts, you will find that none of them offer a cure. Unfortunately, it also tends to be impossible to determine which medication will get rid of your warts. In order to get started, it may be best to choose a treatment that you will feel comfortable with in terms of administration and scheduling. At the very least, if it doesn’t work, you can try the other medications. Alternatively, you can also use this time to think about surgical options if you do not want to try more medications.
