Causes of Children's Leg Warts
Wart is contagious due to the presence of HPV (Human Papillomavirus). The virus is known to have more than hundred symptoms and the any of these can cause warts. Therefore, you cannot be sure with any one symptom. A survey conducted by the centre of disease control estimates that people affected with more than 90% of HPV will develop weaker immunity within the span of two years.
Are children more likely to be infected by warts as compared to adults? Since the HPV virus starts attacking the immune system early, children who have a weaker immune system and have cuts, scratches or a wound on their skin are most likely to develop warts.
The virus mostly lives in the warm, moist areas. Areas like community swimming pools, bathrooms and locker rooms are the ideal places for the virus to thrive. HPV needs a human body to continue its life, so it preys on new individuals and in several cases virus generally enters through the cuts and open wounds on the skin.
According to the Merck Manual the common areas, which are most likely to be affected by warts, are the legs, feet and knees. The reason why it affects kids a lot is that they are more prone to skin cuts while playing. Most often kids play foot, at home or at the park, so the possibility of skin cuts increases. Not only this, but even adults while cooking or shaving can be open to skin cuts, thus making it easier for the HPV to enter their bodies.
Common household items like towels and clothing can also be a good source of viruses. That is why it is always advised; not only by the doctors but also by elders at home to avoid using personal belongings of others, like towels and underwear. The virus lying on the unwashed clothes can easily catch you as well.
HPV is a self-infecting virus, also known as the autoinoculation. It breaks into smaller pieces and easily crumbles. Doctors will always advise you not to pick, rub or scratch the warts, as even a tiny bit of warts can grow easily on someone else’s body. If you touch or try to break your warts and then touch a child, who normally has a sensitive skin then the chances of the child getting warts will be extremely high. Moreover, since their (children) immunity is weak considered to the adults, more in a beginning stage, then the disease development process catches up in a fast pace.
The warts affecting kids are tiny, flat and are darker in appearance. They often develop in clusters and sometimes more than hundred warts can grow in a location. Sometimes they appear in a single line.
Human body is the biggest carrier of Warts. Affected children can easily spread the disease to other kids. Kids with typical scrapes and cuts on their knees and legs are more prone to warts. Touching the affected area and then using the common things to use spreads the disease tremendously.
